Extreme weather, including heat, wildfire smoke, and floods, threatens the health, safety, and education of our school children. Meanwhile, we are spending $15 billion a year to build and operate the state’s more than 10,000 school buildings, often installing fossil fuel burning machines that are worsening the health impacts on children and working against the state’s 2045 carbon neutrality goals.
SB 394 (Gonzalez) requires the state to create a Master Plan for Healthy, Sustainable, and Climate-Resilient Schools. This plan will ensure that we decarbonize all of our school buildings and create healthy learning environments for children. It will also ensure schools can capture billions of federal dollars currently available to create climate-resilient schools.
Email Governor Newsom, Senate President pro Tempore Atkins, and Speaker Rendon and ask them to support a $10 million budget request to create this important Statewide Master Plan!
